Reception
Martin, Leigh, Laws & Fritzlen, P.C. hosted a reception for the Inns of UMKC School of Law on March 12, 2008 following a program presented to the Ladd Inn, Scarritt Inn and Dean Inn at the Kansas City Municipal Court.
Honorable Joseph Locascio, Judicial Master of the Ladd Inn, presided over the program presented to the combined Inns and led a panel discussion on how to maneuver through the Kansas City Municipal Court. Judge Locascio held court in his Courtroom, giving the Inn Students an opportunity to watch a municipal court trial. Following the trial, Judge Locascio, Berry F. Laws, III (Shareholder of Martin, Leigh, Laws & Fritzlen, P.C. and Practitioner Master), Matt Rose (Prosecutor) and Mike Minard (Legal Aid attorney), provided insight into how to prepare for municipal court, appear for cases and how to act professionally and respectfully in doing so. Megan Roth (Practitioner Master for Ladd Inn), a public defender, also provided insight into the similarities and differences between municipal court trials and state court trials.
Berry F. Laws, III and Beverly M. Weber (Senior Associate, Martin, Leigh, Laws & Fritzlen, P.C.) have volunteered as Practitioner Masters with the UMKC Inns Program since its inception.
